Founder of the hugely influential string band New Grass Revival and “the mandolin king of modern bluegrass,” (Village Voice) virtuoso mandolinist, vocalist, and muliple GRAMMY winner Sam Bush is joined by special guests for this exclusive performance.
«As one looks back over the recent history of adventurous American roots music, Bush either masterminded, contributed to or influenced many of its most ear-opening developments.»
– Chicago Tribune
An artist who expanded the role of the instrument in contemporary music, Bush has assimilated a range of influences from rock, jazz, folk, and Caribbean music and blended them into his pioneering approach that stands as the benchmark others are measured against. He fou...nded the seminal New Grass Revival in 1970 — an ensemble that helped launch the modern bluegrass revolution and the careers of a number of present day string giants including guitarist Pat Flynn and banjoist Béla Fleck, who would perform with the group for nearly a decade. Bush has lent his inimitable talents to recordings and performances with Fleck, Leon Russell, Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris, the all-star string band Strength in Numbers, and Garth Brooks, among others. He received GRAMMY nods for his contributions to Harris’ 1992 release Emmylou Harris & Nash Ramblers, Fleck’s 1996 album The Sinister Minister, and the eight-times platinum selling O Brother, Where Art Thou soundtrack, which won the 2001 GRAMMY for Record of the Year. Bush has led 10 eclectic sessions, and was named him Mandolin Player of the Year four times by the International Bluegrass Music Association. The state of Kentucky passed a legislative resolution in 2010 that officially designated Bush the “Father of Newgrass,” and he was the subject of a 2015 documentary film, Revival: The Sam Bush Story.
