Coffee & Conversation with Jane Fonda & Lily Tomlin to Benefit One Fair Wage. The One Fair Wage Campaign, a project of Restaurant Opportunities Centers (ROC) Action, is working to eliminate the sub-minimum wage for tipped workers that still exists in 43 states. Federal law allows employers to pay tipped workers as little as $2.13 per hour.
Tipped restaurant workers are twice as likely to live in poverty and rely on food stamps as the rest of the workforce. And because they are predominantly female the poverty burden falls
disproportionately on working mothers.
The campaign is on the cusp of moving New York and Michigan to adopt One Fair Wage. We have already won One Fair Wage in DC! Governor Cuomo is in the final stages of review to make New York the eighth state to require One Fair Wage this summer, and One Fair Wage will be on the ballot this November in Michigan.
