About SHAKEY GRAVES:
Shakey Graves announces a new EP coming September 21 that will feature live performances of the tracks “Cops and Robbers” and “Counting Sheep” from his NPR Night Owl session that occurred in his hometown of Austin at SXSW earlier this year. The session was filmed at the historic Saengerrunde Hall.
Shakey Graves’ new album, Can’t Wake Up (Dualtone), has received praise for veering from the inevitable to the revelatory; its thirteen songs teeming with jarring musical and thematic collisions and thrillingly seamless intersections, gnarly psychological hornswoggles and ecstatic resolutions. Central to the prevailing sense of disorientation are the lead vocals, none of which is purely solo. Instead, each lead performance is shadowed by a queasy harmony or slightly out–of–sync unison part, giving the sense—especially on headphones—that these voices are emanating from inside the listener’s head.
Listen to KOLARS:
KOLARS is one of those rare acts which descends from another dimension, struts its sequin skin, blares it’s unabashed musical thrill ride and leaves audiences with their mouths on the floor.
The aesthetic and fashion sense of the band lives in a similarly daring world. The two often seek out rare vintage pieces and design much of the stage attire themselves. Visually there are glam, sci-fi, teddy boy, goth, and western themes. Sequins and mirrors often reflect dazzling light shows for the audience. When asked about the reflective aesthetic Rob replied, “Well we couldn’t afford our own light show so we figured we’d just become one ourselves”.
They have built their momentum through hard work and tenacity, growing their following one fan at a time. They tour relentlessly and do much of the work themselves. The husband and wife duo treat the business like a growing mom and pop startup. Rock and roll with an entrepreneurial spirit.
