GLIDE Church is a spiritual center of healing, faith, justice and community for everyone. No matter who you are, where you come from or what you’ve been through, you’re welcome here!
This week at 9:00 am, we'll hear from Pastor Lyvonne “Proverbs” Picou, a New York City native and body and sex-positive preacher, speaker, writer and creative social entrepreneur. An Emmy-award-winning media producer, Pastor Lyvonne graduated from Seton Hall University with a Bachelor of Arts in English Honors, Yale Divinity School with a Master of Divinity, and Columbia Theological Seminary with a Master of Theology, where she completed her thesis about preaching, poetry, and sexual trauma.
Pastor Lyvonne is the founder of beautiful scars (@WereSurthrivors), an online platform for Black women survivors of male sexual violence. By harnessing the power of narrative, she is aiding survivors (and communities, at large) to shift from silence to storytelling to put an end to gender-based violence.
At the 11:00 am Celebration, Rabbi Michael Lezak of GLIDE's Center for Social Justice will offer the sermon. At GLIDE, Rabbi Lezak aims to magnify the impact of GLIDE's justice machinery and forge covenantal bonds between GLIDE and the broader Jewish community. Rabbi Lezak is on the board of T'ruah: The Rabbinic Call For Human Rights. Previously, he served 14 years as rabbi of Congregation Rodef Sholom in San Rafael, California, where he oversaw the congregation’s Chevra Kaddisha and New Jim Crow Working Group. He is married to Rabbi Noa Kushner and is the proud parent of three daughters.
